Sudoku Strategy Tips

WordSearch

The best strategy with a word search is to read across the lines backwards and forth, and then repeat with the vertical columns to find words placed orthodoxly in the grid. With diagonally placed words you should scan your eye over the whole grid. Remember words can share several letters. If you get really stuck on a particular word, go through the entire grid from top to bottom following each time the start letter of that word occurs until you find the word you are after.

Word Wheel

A good method to get lots of words is to move round the wheel letter by letter, and with each letter try to find as many words as you can starting with that latter.

Word Ladder

With a word ladder you should pay attention to shifts in vowel / consonant order as these can be the hardest moves to make. If they occur moving from the start to the end word, then try to make them as soon as you can as you move down the word ladder.

Logic

Different strategies are required for the variety of logic puzzles we have on offer. With number puzzles, try to spot a common pattern between each number in the sequence and what sort of change is occurring each time - steady, increasing, decreasing or oscillating. With word puzzles you might need to use your imagination and a little lateral thinking from time to time!

Crossword

Scan through all the words and if there any you definitely know, try to place them. This can help and particularly getting the first letter of a word is useful. If you get stuck try using an online thesaurus to come up with ideas for other possible words to help you solve our quick crosswords.
